Florida Panthers left winger Mike Hoffman made a desperate attempt to stop an empty net goal by tossing his stick at Dallas Stars right winger Alexander Radulov during Tuesday night's game in Dallas.
It happened with under a minute left in regulation as the hometown Stars held a 3-2 lead. The Panthers were playing with an empty net, and the Stars cleared the puck from their zone. Radulov got ahead of the Panthers defense, catching up to the puck inside the Panthers blue line with the perfect opportunity for an empty net goal. Hoffman wasn't able to make a legal play, so he tossed his stick along the ice towards Radulov.
Hoffman's stick crossed in front of the puck just as Radulov was about to shoot. Radulov missed the net, but the officials awarded him the goal anyway, his second of the game, and the Stars beat the Panthers 4-2.
