Cleveland Indians reliever Oliver Perez was in the center of an unusual situation during Sunday's game in Boston when he called a timeout to change his shoes.
Perez was called into the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out and runners on first and second with the Red Sox holding a 5-3 lead. However, before throwing a pitch, Perez called to the umpire for a timeout and pointed to his shoe, as it appeared that one of his spikes were broken. That led to a delay as the Indians scrambled to get Perez a new pair of shoes, while fans were treated to the strange sight of a pitcher standing on the mound wearing only socks.
The Indians equipment staff was able to round up another pair of shoes for Perez to wear, and the game action finally resumed. However, the new shoes didn't help Perez much, as he gave up a double and home run to put the Indians in a 9-3 hole. Perez finished the fifth inning but was replaced in the sixth, as the Red Sox beat the Indians 12-5.
