Matt Carpenter turns bunt into double

Matt Carpenter bunts, turns it into double

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter turned a bunt into a double during Monday night's game against Miami.

It happened in the bottom of the fifth with two outs and the bases empty. The Marlins had the shift on, with all of the infielders lined up to the right of second base. Carpenter took advantage of the shift by laying a bunt towards third base. The ball rolled all the way into the outfield grass, leaving Marlins pitcher Elieser Hernandez alone to chase after it. Hernandez had no chance to make a play, because by the time he caught up with the ball, Carpenter had made it to second standing up.

Now that's a play you never see. Usually if a batter makes it to second base on a bunt, it's because of a throwing error.

Carpenter came around to score as the next batter reached base on a throwing error. Carpenter finished 3-for-4 with that double and a HR as the Cardinals beat the Marlins 5-0.
