The first stage of the 2019 Tour de France was highlighted by a major crash less than 2 kilometers from the finish line which took down several riders, including defending champion Geraint Thomas.
Others among those who fell off their bikes included Jakob Fuglsang and Dylan Groenewegen. Thomas was able to get back onto his bike and finish the stage.
In the meantime, the first stage came down to a photo finish as Dutch rider Mike Teunissen edged out Peter Sagan.
