Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy left Monday night's game against Pittsburgh after sliding head-first into a goal post.
It happened in the third period as McAvoy was scrambling to recover on defense as Penguins right winger Bryan Rust led a shorthanded breakaway. Bruins goaltender Jaroslav Halak was able to make the stop on the shot by Rust, while McAvoy, who was behind the play, made a desperate dive in an attempt to stop the shot. McAvoy's momentum carried him sideways into the net, where he hit his head on the goalpost and knocked the net out of place, stopping play.
McAvoy skated off the ice under his own power, but appeared to be bleeding on the side of his face.
In the end, the Bruins earned the 6-4 victory.
