Winnipeg Jets defenseman Tucker Poolman took a puck to the face as he sacrificed himself to block a shot during Tuesday's Game 3 of their NHL Western Conference Qualifier series against Calgary.
It happened in the second period as Flames center Mikael Backlund lined up for a shot on the Jets goal from point blank range. As Poolman fearlessly dropped down to the ice and slid in front of the puck, Backlund attempted to lift the puck with a wrist shot over Poolman. The puck hit Poolman square in the face.
Poolman was taken off the ice and straight to the locker room, with a trail of blood following him. More proof that hockey players are some of the toughest athletes in the world.
It was that kind of game for the Jets as they were beat up by the Flames 6-2. Calgary took a 2-1 lead in the series.
