It happened in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and a runner on first as the A's held a 3-0 lead. Tigers batter Jeimer Candelario hit a screaming line drive towards right center field that looked certain to be a base hit. However, Kemp was lined up on the edge of the grass to the right of second base, putting him in position to show off his athleticism in what may be the catch of the year so far in MLB.
The television broadcast crew in this clip was astounded and, as the closeup camera angle showed after the catch, so was Kemp.
The play ended the inning, and Kemp felt like celebrating as he headed back to the dugout to celebrate the play with his teammates. Kemp's play put a dagger in the comeback hopes of the Tigers, and the A's went on to win the game 4-1. [LBS].@tonykemp can't believe he caught that either. 😱 pic.twitter.com/SXe1dxjU0G
