Monday's 3000 meter steeplechase race at the World Championships in Oregon were thrown into a bit of disarray as a clueless cameraman wandered into the inside of the track.
The cameraman was focused on the shot he was taking while standing on the lane divider between the two inside lanes without noticing the approaching runners. As a result, some of the runners were forced to go wide to avoid colliding with the cameraman.
Fortunately there was no collision with the cameraman, but six of the runners in the field of 15 lost a bit of ground as they switched to a wider lane to avoid the cameraman. Meanwhile, the cameraman himself had no idea of the disaster he nearly caused until the field had completely passed him. It was a good thing that he didn't move, or he most certainly would have collided with at least one of the runners. Hopefully his co-workers will come up with some additional safety measures to ensure that this doesn't happen again in the future.
