It happened in the 68th minute of the scoreless match when the canine pitch invader forced a stoppage of play. The dog ran straight for the ball and began playing with and chewing on it. The dog appeared to be friendly, which was fortunate for the security guard who had to pick up the dog and carry it off the field.
Of course, this always raises the questions of who brought a dog to the stadium and why, but there is no reason to spoil the moment. Scenes like this are funny. As for the players, the incident just amounts to a quick time out until play resumes, which in this case took less than a minute.
It could always be worse. At least this dog did not poop on the field, which we saw happen during a soccer match in Argentina back in 2014.
The dog provided most of the excitement for the night as the match ended in the scoreless draw. The second leg between these teams will be played at Subaru Park in Philadelphia on March 14. We are willing to bet there will be no dogs in the stadium that day.
