Zach Hyman scores after puck deflects off his face, Kings vs. Oilers, 4/25/2023
Edmonton Oilers left winger Zach Hyman scored a goal after a shot from a teammate deflected off his face and into the net during Game 5 of their NHL playoff series against Los Angeles.

It happened with under five minutes remaining in the second period as the Oilers held a 4-2 lead. With the Oilers in possession of the puck on a power play in the Kings zone, defenseman Evan Bouchard took a slapshot as Hyman was fighting for position in front of the net. Hyman saw the shot coming and was able to turn away as the shot hit him in the side of the face and deflected into the net for the goal.

Bouchard and Connor McDavid were credited with assists on the goal. Hyman appeared to be in some pain afterwards, but at least he earned credit for the score. It was good to see that there was no blood, as other NHL players who have taken a puck to the face have not been so lucky.

Hyman headed to the bench after the goal, but was back on the ice after a few minutes. The Oilers beat the Kings 6-3 to take a 3-2 series lead.
