Anthony Davis laughs at himself after scoring own bucket, Lakers vs. Warriors, 5/2/2023
Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis accidentally tipped the ball into his own bucket during Game 1 of the NBA Western Conference Semifinals against Golden State.

It happened with just over 8 minutes remaining in the third quarter as the Warriors had the ball with the Lakers holding a 73-71 lead. Stephen Curry took a jump shot that bounced off the rim, and Davis was in perfect position to grab the defensive rebound. Unfortunately, Davis was unable to secure the ball and ended up tipping the ball back up to the backboard, where it bounced into the net to tie the game at 73.

Kevin Looney, who was standing behind Davis, was given credit for the bucket as he was the closest Warriors player to the net at the time that Davis scored the "own bucket".

AD couldn't help but laugh at himself as he jogged down to the other end of the court to play offense. However, Davis made up for the goof when he took a pass from D'Angelo Russell, dribbled right to the basket and threw down a two-handed slam to give the Lakers back the lead.

For the game, Davis had a dominant performance with 30 points and 23 rebounds to lead the Lakers to a 117-112 win. When you play like that, it's easier to laugh at yourself when something occasionally goes wrong, especially when you are winning. After failing to make the playoffs last year and becoming an SNL punchline, AD and the Lakers have turned things around.
