Brandon Drury faceplants running to first base, Marlins vs. Angels, 5/28/2023
Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury suffered an embarrassing mishap during Sunday's game against Miami as he faceplanted while running to first base.

It happened in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out and nobody on as the Marlins held a 2-0 lead. Drury worked the count to 2-2, then hit a grounder to third. Drury had taken three steps towards first before getting bit by the turf monster and falling flat on his face. Marlins third baseman Jean Segura had so much time that he jogged across the infield with the ball, past the pitcher's mound, before tossing it to first.

Drury had barely made it back up on his feet before being punched out. Fortunately, he was not physically injured and was able to stay in the game, although he likely suffered a bruised ego. It should be noted that Drury is not the first player to faceplant while running the bases, and he probably won't be the last.

Drury finished the game 0-for-3 with a walk. It was that kind of game for the Angels overall at the plate, as they only managed five hits and the Marlins won the game 2-0.
