Charlie Morton awkwardly navigates through Reds mascot race (Video)

Charlie Morton caught in Reds mascot race, Braves vs. Reds, 6/25/2023
Atlanta Braves starter Charlie Morton found himself caught in the middle of a race between Cincinnati Reds mascots during Sunday's game at Great American Ball Park.

The Reds were holding a race between their mascots - Gapper, Mr. Redlegs, Mr. Red and Rosie Red. The mascots were rounding the backstop and charging past the Braves dugout just as Morton was heading back out onto the field for the bottom of the inning. As a result, Morton had to stop himself to let Gapper and Mr. Redlegs go by before cutting off Rosie Red on his way to the mound.

That would have been really awful if a collision occurred. Luckily everyone was paying attention and disaster was avoided. Otherwise, Braves mascot Blooper would have to make a visit to Cincinnati and take care of the Reds mascots like he took out those youth football players last year.

As for Morton, he stayed in the game for five innings, striking out 7 while giving up three runs. He pitched well enough to earn the victory as the Braves beat the Reds 7-6, becoming the first National League team to reach 50 wins.
