It happened with just under 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter with the game tied at 7. USC had the ball 1st-and-10 on their own 24-yard line. Williams dropped the shotgun snap, but avoided near disaster by quickly picking it up off the ground. Williams immediately faced a defensive lineman coming in for the attempted sack, but was able to get rid of it and throw a deep ball to receiver Tahj Washington, who beat the coverage, made the catch, and outran the secondary for the TD.
When you're good enough to win the Heisman Trophy, things tend to go your way, as it certainly did on that play.
Williams finished 18-for-25 for 278 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Trojans beat San Jose State 56-28.
