Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drops throw to first base, Blue Jays vs. Royals, 4/23/2024

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. dropped an easy throw to first base that paved the way for a Kansas City Royals rally during Tuesday's MLB game at Kauffman Stadium.

It happened in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs and a runner on second as the Blue Jays held a 2-0 lead. Royals batter Kyle Isbel hit a soft grounder to the left side of the infield. Blue Jays third baseman Isiah Kiner-Falefa moved to his left to scoop up the grounder and made a solid throw to first base. Guerrero reached to his right for the ball and should have had it for what would have been the third out to end the inning.

Unfortunately, Guerrero flat-out dropped the ball, which bounced into foul territory behind him, allowing Isbel to reach first base safely and runner Michael Massey to score from second base for the first Royals run of the game.

Guerrero was charged with an error on the play, and he could not have been happy after that. He probably would have broken a bat over his knee if he had one. He has done it before.

As if Guerrero didn't feel bad enough, the Royals followed up with a single and double to take a 3-2 lead, which turned out to be the final score in the game. Guerrero had a rough night at the plate as well, striking out twice as he went 0-for-5 in the game. Nothing he can do but move forward and put this behind him.
