St. Louis Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrara took a foul tip to the groin during Sunday night's game against Chicago.
It happened in the top of the fourth with two outs and runners on first and second with the Cardinals leading 2-0. Starter Sonny Gray threw an 84 mph sweeper that Cubs batter Ian Happ managed to barely tip it with a full swing. It was enough to tip the ball below Herrera's glove and into his groin.

We are guessing that he was wearing his cup because Herrera managed to stay in the game. This is Exhibit A as to why catchers have to wear one. Even runners on the basepaths need a cup these days.
Although Herrera went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts at the plate, it stands to his toughness that he stayed in there for the full game as the Cardinals beat the Cubs 4-3.
