Jake Diekman tosses cooler in dugout after giving up HR vs. Guardians (Video)

Jake Diekman tosses cooler, Mets vs. Guardians, 5/21/2024

New York Mets reliever Jake Diekman tossed a cooler to express his frustration with his performance in Tuesday night's game in Cleveland.

Diekman entered the game in the bottom of the sixth with a runner on first and nobody out as the Guardians held a 5-4 lead. The first Guardians batter he faced, David Fry, hit a home run to right field to extend Cleveland's lead to 7-4. Diekman proceeded to strike out the next two batters before giving up a walk and getting pulled from the game.

As Diekman returned to the dugout, he picked up a cooler and threw it down the dugout steps as he headed into the locker room.

A lot of MLB players release their frustrations on coolers. Some players smash them with bats while others pound them with their fists. Luckily, coolers are built to take a beating.

Fry's 2-run HR made the difference in the game as the Guardians beat the Mets 7-6, which will not make Diekman feel any better. This was the second straight appearance in which Diekman has given up a home run. Hopefully his luck will turn around soon.
