Los Angeles Angels second baseman Luis Rengifo was caught forgetting the number of outs, causing him to miss an inning-ending double play opportunity during Friday night's game in Cleveland.
It happened in the bottom of the eighth inning with one out and a Guardians runner on first as the Angels held a 6-0 lead. Guardians DH Jose Ramirez hit a grounder to short in what appeared to be an easy double play. Zach Neto scooped it up and tossed it to Rengifo to get the lead runner at second. However, instead of tossing the ball to first, Rengifo held on to it, walked off the bag and began heading back to the dugout. It wasn't until Neto got his attention that Rengifo realized that the inning wasn't over.

This is not the first time we have seen an MLB player lose track of the number of outs. Fortunately, Rengifo's memory lapse didn't cost his team, as the Angels got out of the inning without giving up a run. Hopefully Rengifo can chalk this up to a lesson learned and doesn't make this mistake again.
The Angels held on for the 6-0 victory. However, the Angels find themselves tied for last place in the American League West.
