St. Louis Cardinals designated hitter Matt Carpenter broke his bat during one of his at-bats in Sunday's game in Milwaukee, but the strange part was that it snapped before he made contact with the ball.
It happened in the top of the fourth with one out and nobody on as the Brewers held a 3-1 lead. On the 0-1 pitch, Carpenter swung and appeared to foul the ball behind him as his bat broke. However, the replay showed that the bat snapped right above the handle on the swing, missing the ball completely as the ball bounced off the glove of catcher Gary Sanchez and towards the backstop.
The weirdest foul ball you'll ever see! 😳 pic.twitter.com/YcKJpVkoRY

Now that's something we haven't seen before. We have seen plenty of broken bats over the years, including players breaking bats over their knee, but not on a full swing.
The pitch was ruled a strike, which was the right call considering Carpenter swung and missed. Carpenter may want to inspect his bats a little more closely next time to make sure they can handle his strength.
Carpenter ended up lining out to right field to end his at-bat. He finished the game 1-for-4 with a single and a walk as the Cards came from behind to win the game 4-3.
