It happened in the top of the fourth inning with one out and a runner on second base as the Padres held a 6-0 lead. Padres batter Manny Machado hit a fly ball to right field that Acuna only had to come in a few steps for. On the surface, it seemed to be a routine play, and it seemed so easy that Acuna planned to catch it with one hand. However, despite keeping his eyes on the ball the whole way, he inexplicably dropped it.

Machado reached first safely and Padres runner Jurickson Profar advanced to third base on the error. Profar scored on a subsequent sacrifice fly to extend the Padres lead to 7-1.
Acuna is hitting only .242 with 3 home runs this year, so the All-Star is already playing below expectations. This play seems to reinforce the fact that he needs to be better.
It was that kind of game for the Braves as the Padres beat them 9-1.
