Sam Carrick gets game misconduct for spearing Dmitry Kulikov in groin (Video)

Sam Carrick spears Dmitry Kulikov in Groin, Oilers vs. Panthers, Stanley Cup Finals Game 2, 6/10/2024

Edmonton Oilers center Sam Carrick speared Florida Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov in the groin during Monday night's Game 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals at Amerant Bank Arena.

It happened in the final minutes of the third period after the Panthers took a commanding 4-1 lead to virtually seal the victory. Carrick released some frustration by slashing Panthers center Kevin Stenlund, at which point Kulikov checked Carrick hard into the boards. As Carrick got up, he followed Kulikov and grabbed the stick out of his hands. Then, Carrick positioned himself in front of Kulikov and tried to be sneaky by slipping the spear in between Kulikov's legs.

Kulikov must have been wearing his cup, because he was still standing on the ice moments later. However, we have seen too many NHL players get speared in the groin over the years. That is just not cool.

Carrick was given two minutes for slashing and a game misconduct for the spear. The Panthers won the game to take a 2-0 lead in the series, which now heads to Edmonton for the next two games.
