A strange scene played out Saturday during the first game of a doubleheader in San Francisco as a Giants fan was ejected for throwing a foul ball back onto the field and coming uncomfortably close to hitting an umpire.
It happened in the top of the sixth with a Colorado Rockies runner on first and one out as the Giants led 1-0. After Rockies batter hit a foul ball into the first base stands to make the count 1-2, the Giants fan who came into possession of the ball inexplicably threw the ball back onto the field. The ball landed no more than three feet away from where second base umpire Laz Diaz was standing.
Diaz was clearly upset, as he walked over to the first base line, pointed out the fan, and called for him to be removed from the ball park.

The fan seemed apologetic, but there was no way that Oracle Park security was going to let this slide.
This leads to the obvious question: What was this fan thinking? Some younger fans instinctively toss home run balls back even when they should keeping them, but this was a foul ball. Everyone knows that you keep the foul balls. Well, apparently everyone except this guy.
The Giants went on to sweep the doubleheader, winning the first game 4-1 and the nightcap 5-0.
