Javy Baez ruthlessly mocked by Guardians broadcaster (Video)

Javy Baez, Guardians vs. Tigers, 7/9/2024

Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez was mocked by a Cleveland Guardians broadcaster for his poor season performance during Tuesday night's game at Comerica Park.

It happened in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs and nobody on as the game was tied at 7-7. Guardians reliever Nick Sandlin, who had just given up a home run to tie the game, hit Baez in the hip with an 80 mph slider on the first pitch of his at-bat. Baez took a few steps towards the mound before catcher Austin Hedges and home plate umpire Mike Muchlinksi stepped in to calm Baez down.

That's when the Guardians color commentator pointed out in hilarious fashion that the HBP by Sandlin was unintentional.

"Baez chirping...Look, Javy, you're hitting way under .200. Nobody's hittin' you on purpose."

Baez finished the game 0-for-3 to bring his season average down to .182. This comes after he hit only .222 last year, with several embarrassing moments along the way. Meanwhile, Baez is making $25 million this year. Doesn't seem fair.

As for the game, the Guardians beat the Tigers 9-8 in 10 innings to maintain a 5 1/2 game lead in the American League Central. The Tigers fell to six games below .500.
