Andrew Chafin kicks cooler in Rangers dugout vs. Yankees (Video)

Andrew Chafin kicks cooler, Rangers vs. Yankees, 8/11/2024

Texas Rangers reliever Andrew Chafin kicked a cooler out of frustration after his appearance in Sunday's game in the Bronx against the New York Yankees.

Chafin came into the game in the bottom of the sixth with runners on first and third and two outs as the Yankees were trying to extend a 6-1 lead. Chafin got batter Alex Verdugo to fly out to left field to end the sixth, and then the Rangers scored two runs in the top of the seventh to narrow the Yankee lead to 6-3. However, in the bottom of the seventh, Chafin gave up solo home runs to sluggers Juan Soto and Aaron Judge and was taken out of the game. Chafin was clearly not happy with his performance, and he released his anger with a swift kick of a cooler that was sitting on the dugout steps.

Over the years we have seen coolers thrown around, slammed with fists, and slammed with bats. Although we do not encourage beating up coolers, they can take a pretty good beating with little to no damage. We would just hate to see players hurt themselves in the process. Chafin seemed to be fine except for the bruised ego.

Chafin threw 5 strikes on 10 pitches in one-third of an inning, giving up those two home runs. The Rangers tried to bail out Chafin with a late rally but fell just short as the Yankees held on for the 8-7 victory to win the rubber game of the three-game series. The Yankees have pulled back into a first-place tie with the Orioles in the American League East.
