Doc Pederson double turns into Little League HR vs. Rockies (Video)

Doc Pederson hits Little League HR, Rockies vs. Diamondbacks, 8/14/2024

Arizona Diamondbacks DH Doc Pederson hit a double that turned into a Little League HR due to a terrible throw during Wednesday's game against Colorado.

It happened in the bottom of the first inning with runners on first and third and nobody out as the D-backs were looking to get on the scoreboard first. On the first pitch of his at-bat, Pederson hit a double down the right field line that knocked in both runners. Right fielder Sam Hilliard threw the ball back into the infield to first baseman Michael Toglia.

Pederson faked running to third, drawing the throw from Toglia as he slid back into second. However, Toglia's throw was incredibly wild and sailed into left center field, allowing Pederson to easily run the rest of the way home. The ball ended up on the warning track before the Rockies outfield was able to chase it down.

Toglia was charged with an error on the play as the D-backs took a 3-0 lead. Pederson was credited for 2 RBI.

Little league home runs are fun to watch, as you don't expect to see them at the major league level. It's not clear from the video why Toglia's throw was so wild, but he clearly put WAY too much juice on his throw in this case.

Rockies starter Tanner Gordon was chased from the game after pitching to the entire D-backs lineup without getting out of the first inning. He gave up 3 hits, 2 walks and 4 runs (3 earned) in two-thirds of an inning. After three innings of play, the D-backs led the Rockies 5-0.
