ESPNU broadcast goes dark, viewers miss Arkansas TD vs. AR-Pine Bluff (Video)

College football fans watching Thursday night's 2024 college football season opener for Arkansas missed a touchdown scored against Arkansas-Pine Bluff due to technical issues on the ESPNU broadcast.

It happened with 8:22 remaining in the first quarter as Arkansas held a 7-0 lead and had 1st and goal on the 4-yard line. Just as the broadcast had returned from a replay to live action, the feed was lost for about seven seconds. The screen was black with the exception of the news feed on the bottom of the screen. When the live broadcast came back, Razorbacks junior quarterback Taylen Green was in the end zone celebrating a touchdown.

In the seconds that followed, the ESPNU feed continued to have issues, as the sound when out briefly, then the video froze and went out again before settling down in time to show a replay of Green's TD.

Although this is not the primary ESPN broadcast network, you would think that their sibling network would not have technical issues like this. Unfortunately, there is no preseason in college football, so they will have to work these issues out on the fly.

Ultimately, the touchdown that viewers missed will not make a difference in the final outcome. With 5:37 remaining in the second quarter, the Razorbacks lead the Golden Lions 42-0, so Arkansas has the game pretty well in hand.
