Seattle Mariners designated hitter Justin Turner hit a grand slam home run - and a fan in the face with the ball - during Friday night's game against Philadelphia.
It happened in the bottom of the second inning with two outs and the bases loaded with the Mariners looking to extend a 4-0 lead. Turner crushed the 2-1 pitch 397 feet into left field and over the Phillies bullpen for a grand slam that give the Mariners an 8-0 lead. It was Turner's first home run since being traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.
Unfortunately, one particular fan happened to be standing right in the spot where the home run ball was coming down, and he did not appear to be aware that the ball was coming towards him. As a result, from what we could see from the available video, the ball hit the fan right in the face.
After being hit, the fan appeared to be in obvious pain. We certainly hope he is OK. We have seen golf balls hit fans before, but baseballs could certainly be a lot more painful.
Turner finished 2-for-4 with those 4 RBI as the Mariners beat the Phillies 10-2, which extends the Phillies losing streak to five games.
