Eastern Michigan DB scores TD on 99-yard fumble return vs. St. Francis (Video)

David Carter Jr. 99-yard fumble return for TD, St. Francis vs. Eastern Michigan, 9/21/2024

Eastern Michigan Eagles senior defensive back David Carter Jr. returned a fumble 99 yards for a touchdown during Saturday's NCAA football game against the St. Francis (PA) Red Flash.

It happened with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter with the game scoreless as St. Francis had 2nd and Goal on the Eastern Michigan 2-yard line. St. Francis quarterback Adrian Mejia appeared to fumble the snap, leading to a pile of bodies on the ground scrambling to take possession of the ball. Although the play appeared to be dead, the officials never blew the whistle, and an alert Carter ran out of the pile with the ball and started running with it.

Before anyone on St. Francis realized what was going on, Carter had a huge headstart towards the end zone, running virtually the full length of the field for an easy 99-yard touchdown.

Eastern Michigan had their own issues with fumbled snaps a few years back, but they were on the right side of things today. At halftime, the Eagles held a 13-0 lead, with Carter also contributing two solo tackles on defense.
