Notre Dame DB Jordan Clark penalized for headbutting opponent vs. Louisville (Video)

Jordan Clark headbutts opponent, Louisville vs. Notre Dame, 9/28/2024

Notre Dame Fighting Irish senior safety Jordan Clark was penalized for headbutting an opposing player during Saturday's college football game against Louisville.

It happened with 8:32 remaining in the third quarter as Notre Dame held a 21-14 lead. With 4th and 7 on the Louisville 45-yard line, Notre Dame elected to punt and pin Louisville deep in their own zone. James Rendell's punt was fair caught by Ahmari Huggins-Bruce on the 8-yard line. However, Clark was running with Louisville wide receiver Chris Bell during the punt, and with the play winding down, Clark inexplicably delivered a headbutt to Bell.

The headbutt appeared to be completely unprovoked, and Clark was given an unsportsmanlike penalty. Instead of being pinned deep near their end zone, Louisville was able to start their drive on their 25-yard line.

It is hard to understand the logic behind football players headbutting opponents. Not only does it penalize your own team, but there is virtually no chance of hurting your opponent considering you are both wearing helmets.

Clark finished the game with five solo tackles, including one for a loss, and a pass deflection. Notre Dame beat Louisville 31-24.
