Army punter Matthew Rhodes scores TD as holder on fake FG vs. FAU (Video)

Matthew Rhodes runs into end zone, Army vs. Florida Atlantic, 9/7/2024

Army Black Knights senior punter Matthew Rhodes scored a touchdown on a fantastic trick play during Saturday's college football game at Florida Atlantic.

It happened in the first minute of the fourth quarter as Army lined up for a field goal on 4th and 12 on the FAU 23-yard line to extend their 17-7 lead. Rhodes lined up as the holder and took the snap, but instead of putting the ball down on the ground for the kick, he got up and started running. He ran left until a blocker in front of him took out a defender, then ran straight into the end zone without anybody touching him. The flawlessly executed trick play allowed Army to extend their lead to 24-7.

Rhodes did not kick any punts in the game, but his contribution certainly helped seal the win for the Black Knights. It's always great to be recognized for something positive instead of something negative.
