Mets honor Grimace with purple seat in Citi Field stands (Photo)

Grimace throws first pitch, Marlins vs. Mets, 6/12/2024

The New York Mets installed a purple seat in the Citi Field stands to honor Grimace, the purple McDonalds character that inspired a winning streak earlier this season.

Back on June 12, Grimace threw out the first pitch for a Mets home game against the Miami Marlins. At the time, the Mets were having a disappointing season at that point with a record of 28-37. After Grimace's first pitch, the Mets went on a tear with a 7-game winning streak and going 14-4 in their next 18 games to put themselves back in the thick of the pennant race.

As a tribute to Grimace, the seat in section 302, row 6, seat 12 is now purple, which stands out among a sea of blue seats. No word yet as to whether fans will have to pay extra.

The Mets are now 82-68 and are in second place in the National League East division. Although they are eight games back of the Phillies for the division lead, they are a game ahead of the Atlanta Braves for the final National League Wild Card playoff slot. With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, anything can happen, but Grimace certainly helped to make the Mets season exciting.
