Taylen Green kicks defender in face during hurdle attempt vs. Arkansas (Video)

Taylen Green tries to hurdle Jerrin Thompson, Arkansas vs. Auburn, 9/21/2024

Arkansas Razorbacks junior quarterback Taylen Green kicked a defender in the face while trying to hurdle over them during Saturday's SEC conference football game against Auburn.

It happened less then two minutes into the game as Arkansas was on their first offensive drive with 2nd and 10 on their own 47-yard line. Green took the ball himself around the outside and had some wide open field, passing the first down marker as Auburn senior safety Jerrin Thompson was in position to tackle Green straight up.

Green tried to leap over Thompson, who was trying to jump up in the air to stop Green. As a result, Green seemed to kick Thompson in the face with his knee while in the air, knocking Thompson to the ground as he came down. Linebacker Eugene Asanta tackled Green from behind at the 37-yard line.

Watching offensive players hurdle defenders can be exciting, but it seems like they may be resorting to it a little too much these days. When they put themselves in the air like that, they leave themselves vulnerable and at risk for injury. As the quarterback of his team, the most important ability Green has is availability. Hopefully he doesn't get hurt this season and has more moments to celebrate.

Green was credited with a 16-yard run on the play. However, the Arkansas drive ended with a missed field goal attempt.
