Brandon Joseph gets away with pass interference on DK Metcalf (Video)

Brandon Joseph pass interference on DK Metcalf, Seahawks vs. Lions, 9/30/2024

Detroit Lions safety Brandon Joseph got away with blatant pass interference on Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf during Monday night's NFL game at Ford Field.

It happened with just under three minutes left in the fourth quarter as the Lions led 42-27. The Seahawks had the ball with 2nd and 6 on the Detroit 32-yard line. Smith avoided the rush and threw to Metcalf in the end zone. Joseph had his arms draped all around Metcalf while practically tackling him as the ball was thrown, but somehow the officials failed to throw the flag for pass intereference.

How do the referees miss this call? ESPN NFL analyst (and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback) Troy Aikman clearly saw it and said it should have been called. We know that officials miss calls from time to time, but this is ridiculous.

The officials did managed to see that Lions linebacker James Houston was offsides on the play and moved the ball up 5 yards for the Seahawks, giving them 2nd and 1 at the 21. However, that's not the same as 1st and Goal on the 1-yard line, which is what they should have had. In the end, the Seahawks were stopped on the 3-yard line and turned the ball over on downs when they could have had four chances to score from the 1-yard line.

The Lions held on to beat the Seahawks 42-29, handing the Seahawks their first loss of the season.
