UTEP safety Kory Chapman recovers fumbled snap in end zone for TD (Video)

Kory Chapman recovers fumbled snap in end zone, Sam Houston vs. UTEP, 10/4/2024

UTEP Miners senior safety Kory Chapman scored an easy touchdown when he recovered a fumbled snap in the end zone during Thursday night's Conference USA football game against Sam Houston.

It happened in the second quarter as Sam Houston held a 14-0 lead, but was backed up on their 1-yard line to start an offensive drive. Sam Houston QB Hunter Watson lined up in a shotgun and took the snap, but fumbled it before his attempted handoff to running back Jay Ducker. Before Watson could react, Chapman dove on the ball for the touchdown.

We have seen defenders run the length of the field to score a touchdown on a fumble return. Chapman was lucky in that he gets credit for a touchdown just by diving on the ball.

Chapman finished the game with six tackles, including one solo tackle. However, Sam Houston was able to overcome this mistake not only by scoring a field goal on their next offensive drive, but also with three touchdowns on the first three offensive drives of the second half. In the end, the Sam Houston Bearkats beat UTEP 41-21.
