TBS broadcast of Tigers-Guardians ALCS Game 5 interrupted by commercials (Video)

Brayan Rocchio catches line drive, Tigers vs. Guardians, ALCS Game 5, 10/12/2024

Saturday's TBS broadcast of ALCS Game 5 between the Cleveland Guardians and the visiting Detroit Tigers was interrupted by some poorly timed commercials.

It happened in the top of the eighth inning with a runner on second and nobody out as the Tigers were trying to close a 6-3 lead. Tigers batter Jake Rogers hit a line drive that looked like a potential base hit when shortstop Brayan Rocchio made a leaping catch for the first out of the inning.

As Rocchio tossed the ball back to the pitcher and the broadcasters were complementing him on his impressive play, TBS inexplicably cut to a DraftKings commercial featuring "Big Papi" David Ortiz. Not only did the complete 30-second ad aired, but the first 5 seconds of another add followed before TBS returned to the game.

Fortunately, viewers only missed one pitch as Tigers batter Trey Sweeney took a fastball for a strike. Still, looks like someone pressed the wrong button, and it took way too long to fix the problem. When it comes to live television broadcasts, you never know what could happen.

The Tigers failed to score a run in the inning, and in the game, as they lost the deciding game of the series to the Guardians 7-3. The Guardians move on to face the New York Yankees in the ALCS, which starts on Monday.
