San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle (and captain) Trent Williams was ejected from Sunday's game against Kansas City for smacking an opponent in the head.
It happened with 3:03 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Chiefs held a commanding 28-12 lead. The Niners were starting an offensive drive with 1st and 10 on their own 35-yard line. As quarterback Brock Purdy threw a 6-yard pass to wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, Williams was on the ground after attempting a low block on Chiefs safety Bryan Cook. As Williams tried to get back up, Cook lightly smacked him in the side of the hood, apparently in retailiation for the low block attempt. That seemed to anger Williams, who wound up and gave Cook a big hard smack in the side of his head.

Williams was called for unsportsmanlike conduct and, due to the severity of his action, was immediately disqualified from the rest of the game.
As a veteran and captain of the team, Williams has to know better. Punching an opponent in the head is not going to do any damage, and you're basically asking to be penalized. Besides, as we always say, the second guy who throws a punch is always the one who gets caught.
Although Williams was clearly upset and likely frustrated with himself, he did take a moment to sign an autograph for a young Niners fan before heading to the locker room.

The Niners managed to score a touchdown on their offensive drive, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Chiefs won the game 28-18 to remain undefeated after six games.
