Penn State Nittany Lions sophomore cornerback Elliot Washington II was penalized for stepping over an opposing player during Saturday's Big Ten Conference football matchup against Ohio State.
It happened with 13:45 remaining in the second quarter with Penn State holding a 10-7 lead. With the Buckeyes on offense with 3rd and 11 on their own 38 yard line, receiver Carnell Tate caught a pass from quarterback Will Howard but slipped and fell on the 45-yard line for a 7-yard gain. Washington was right there to fall on top of him and get credit for the tackle, then stepped over Tate as he was trying to get up.

Washington was immediately flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. The step-over move is specifically banned in college football as it considered a form of taunting. Washington needs to know the rule and show better discipline.
Ohio State players have been on the receiving end of disrepectful moves by opponents in recent weeks. Fortunately, the officials have been there to throw the flag and keep things from getting out of hand.
The penalty kept the Ohio State drive alive, and they went on to score a touchdown to take a 14-10 lead. Penn State lost the game 20-13.
