ESPN refers to Fresno St. as 'Bulldongs' at Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Video)

Fresno State Bulldongs, Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, 12/23/2024

ESPN made an inexplicable mistake during Monday's broadcast of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl when it referred to Fresno State as the "Bulldongs" instead of the Bulldogs with its graphics.

It was not a one-time goof, but was repeated several times during the first quarter. Viewers could see "Bulldongs" on the scorebug and on the stat display after the Fresno State offense drove 4 plays for 90 yards to score a touchdown to take a 13-3 lead in the first quarter.

For a network that calls itself "the worldwide leader in sports", there is no excuse for this. It is certainly not the first time that ESPN showed the wrong school nickname. You would at least think this time around that spellcheck would have flagged an issue with "Bulldongs". Someone needs to be held accountable here.

This was just one of several goofs that ESPN made during the broadcast of the game, which was won in 2OT by Northern Illinois with a final score of 28-20. Inexplicably, ESPN failed to show the French fry bath given to NIU coach Thomas Hammock, which was a moment many viewers were looking forward to seeing.
