The right field foul pole at Fenway Park, also known as the iconic "Pesky’s Pole", lived up to its name Saturday as it partially blocked television camera angles during ESPN's broadcast of the Fenway Bowl between UConn and North Carolina.
Fenway Park, the historic home of MLB's Boston Red Sox, was transformed to host the college football showdown that has become an annual tradition since 2022. However, since there is no practical way to move or take down a foul pole in what typically marks the corner of right field, ESPN cameras can only do so much to work around it. That led to Pesky's Pole making its presence felt early, creating awkward TV moments during UConn’s opening drive as the action shifted towards the red zone.

Foul poles have been at the center of some unusual sports moments in recent years. However, Pesky's Pole is a unique feature that promises to become a beloved hallmark of the Fenway Bowl that college football fans can appreciate for years to come.
UConn scored a field goal on that opening drive to take a 3-0 lead. As of this writing, they lead UNC 17-7 halfway through the second quarter.
