Steven Lorentz gets helmet stuck in glass during warmups vs. Caps (Video)

Steven Lorentz bodychecks glass, Capitals vs. Maple Leafs, 12/28/2024

Toronto Maple Leafs center Steven Lorentz found himself in a hilarious predicament when his helmet got stuck in the glass during warmups before Saturday night's NHL game against Washington.

Lorentz likes to bodycheck the glass as part of his warmup routine before every game. However, his normal ritual hit a snag on Saturday when his helmet strap got caught between two panes of glass, yanking the helmet right off his head. Fortunately Lorentz was OK, but retrieving the helmet turned into quite the challenge.

After several minutes and several players tried to pull the helmet out to no avail, Max Domi skated over with a pair of small scissors, cutting the strap and ending the ordeal - allowing Lorentz to get his helmet back. We will see if Lorentz decides to change his pregame bodycheck routine moving forward.

This was certainly an unusual sight, although we have seen sticks get stuck in the glass before.

The incident may have foreshadowed trouble ahead for the Maple Leafs, who lost to the Capitals 5-2.
