Boston Bruins left winger Brad Marchand seems to have gotten away with grabbing Ottawa Senators center Nick Cousins by the throat during Thursday night's NHL game at the TD Garden.
It happened during a timeout at the 3:15 mark of the first period with the game still scoreless. Marchand was skating by the Senators bench when Cousins said something to him. Marchand stopped and took off his glove, then tried to choke Cousins. Linesman Ryan Jackson was ready to step in and stop the incident. The chokehold only lasted a second, but Marchand grabbed onto Cousins' jersey before Jackson was able to fully separate them and sending Marchand back to the Bruins bench.

Marchand is known for his big hits, with some of them being a little dirty. This incident, however, was a little bizarre.
Amazingly, no penalty was called on Marchand, despite the fact that the linesman clearly saw what he did. Does this mean that choking your opponent is legal? This behavior cannot be condoned. Someone from the NHL Department of Player Safety has to review this.
In the end, the Bruins beat the Senators 2-0 to jump ahead of them in the Atlantic Division.
