Daniil Medvedev smashes racket, net camera at Australian Open (Video)

Daniil Medvedev smashes racket, Australian Open, 1/13/2025

Russian pro tennis player Daniil Medvedev smashed his racket, and a net camera, in frustration during his first round match of the Australian Open on Monday.

It was in the third set against Thailand's Kasidit Samrej. After splitting the first two sets, Medvedev was down 5-3 in the third set. With Samrej leading 30-15, Medvedev lost a point on a 20-second rally after he approached the net and Samrej hit the ball by him. That triggered a temper tantrum by Medvedev, who smashed his racket on the net several times, taking out the net camera on the first swing.

We have seen plenty of rackets smashed over the years, and it is never a good look.

Medvedev managed to not only regain his composure, but also come from behind to win the match 6-2, 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. However, fifth-seeded Medvedev is likely to face a fine for his outburst. Not sure if that fine includes the cost of the broken camera.
