Texans CB Kris Boyd tosses helmet, shoves special teams coach vs. Chiefs (Video)

Kris Boyd shoves special teams coach Frank Ross, Texans vs. Chiefs, 1/18/2025

Houston Texans cornerback Kris Boyd tossed his helmet and shoved his special teams coach after the opening kickoff of Saturday's AFC Divisional Playoff game in Kansas City.

The Texans kicked off to Chiefs kick returner Nikko Remigio, who caught it on the 5-yard line and returned it 63 yards. He was caught from behind by Boyd, and Remigio fumbled the ball before he hit the ground. Several players on both teams scrambled for the ball, but Boyd was not one of them. While Chiefs RB Samaje Perine recovered the ball on the 26-yard line, Boyd got up and ran towards the Texans sideline celebrating his tackle.

Making matters worse, Boyd decided to take his helmet off and throw it on the ground as he ran towards the Texans sideleine. Naturally, the officials called Boyd for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving the Chiefs 1st and 10 on the Texans 13-yard line to start their first offensive drive.

To add the final exclamation point, Boyd shoved Texans special teams coach Frank Ross in the chest when he confronted him.

Inexplicable behavior on the very first play of the game. If we were coaching, he would be benched without question. Some might say that emotions are running high because this is the playoffs. Still, that's no reason for losing your head, and in this case, Boyd was clearly out of control.
