Oilers-Kraken game interrupted: Who turned out the lights? (Video)

Lights go out in Seattle, Oilers vs. Kraken, 1/4/2024

Saturday night's NHL game at Climate Pledge Arena between the Seattle Kraken and the visiting Edmonton Oilers were interrupted when the lights went out shortly after the game started.

It happened shortly after the opening faceoff as the puck was sent behind the Kraken net. Kraken defenseman Jamie Oleksiak tried to clear the puck along the boards, but Oilers right winger Connor Brown used his body to stop it. Brown was about to send it back behind the net when the arena went dark and the officials were forced to blow the whistle to stop play.

Fortunately, the lights came back on after a few seconds. Of course, this leads to obvious questions: Who is responsible? How could this happen? We would certainly love to hear the inside story on this one.

Amazingly, we have seen the lights go out during NHL games multiple times in recent years, so this problem is not limited specifically to Seattle. However, this is inexplicable and they need to make sure this never happens again during a game.

As for the game, the Oilers beat the Kraken 4-2.
