Tyler Myers cross-checks Evan Bouchard in face, Oilers vs. Canucks, 1/18/2025

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers was ejected for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard in the face during the final moments of Saturday's NHL Pacific Division matchup at the Rogers Center.

It happened with the Canucks leading the Oilers 3-2 as the whistle blew with two seconds left in the game when Oilers center Conor McDavid cross-checked Canucks RW Conor Garland in the head. That led to a scrum with several players in the center of the Canucks zone with officials trying to separate them.

Meanwhile, with most focus on the scrum, Bouchard and Myers were off to the side. As Bouchard skated towards Myers to confront him, Myers delivered a brutal cross-check right into his face.

Deservedly, Myers was given a match penalty, along with McDavid. All other players on the ice, with the exception of Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko, were assessed minor penalties.

This is not the first time we have seen Myers cross-check an opponent in the head. Looks like Myers still has lessons to learn about anger management.

The Canucks won the game 3-2, and we would expect the NHL to take a close look at the cross-check by Myers to see if this warrants a suspension.
