An MLB umpire had a hilarious response to a failed challenge to one of his ball-strike calls via ABS during Tuesday's spring training game between the Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres.
It happened in the top of the seventh inning with no outs and nobody on with the game scoreless. With the count 2-2 to Angels batter Carter Kieboom, Padres pitcher Omar Cruz threw an 81 mph breaking ball that just missed the strike zone low and outside. Home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski called a ball, but Padres catcher Brett Sullivan challenged the call.
According to ABS, the ball was an inch outside the strike zone, prompting Muchlinski to make the hilarious announcement: "The call is surprisingly correct."
"The call is surprisingly correct." 🤣

Muchlinski's announcement triggered laughter from the television broadcast crew, and presumably some fans in the stands. Funny is funny. Nothing wrong with an official with a sense of humor.
As for the game, the Angels beat the Padres 2-1.
