Gleyber Torres injures himself hitting HR vs. Dodgers (Video)

Gleyber Torres grabs side on HR trot, Tigers vs. Dodgers, 3/28/2025

Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres injured himself while hitting a home run during Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It happened in the top of the third inning with the Tigers leading 1-0. Torres led off the inning by hitting a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left-center field for his first home run of the season (and first with the Tigers after having spent the past seven seasons with the New York Yankees). However, after rounding first base, he began to grab his left side and continued to hold it during the rest of his home run trot.

Torres remained in the game through the fifth inning, but was subbed out in the bottom of the sixth. He did not play in Saturday's game.

Over the years, we have seen some athletes suffer catastrophic injuries while celebrating over the years. In this case, Torres did not seem to be excessively celebrating but rather may have tweaked something during the home run swing. This appears to be case of bad luck and we hope he recovers quickly. We are sure the Tigers feel the same way, as they just signed him to a 1-year, $15 million contract in the hopes he could boost their offense.
