New York Yankees radio analyst Suzyn Waldman used their explosive offensive output during the early innings of Saturday's game against Milwaukee to take a stray shot at the Seattle Mariners.
Dave Sims is in his first season as Yankees radio play-by-play announcer after covering the Mariners for 18 seasons. On Saturday, he found himself making the call on four Yankee HRs in the first inning, including three on the first three pitches of the game.
That brings us to the bottom of the third with the Yanks leading 12-3. Jazz Chisholm led off the inning with another HR, extending the Yankees lead and setting up a hilarious exchange between Sims and Waldman comparing this outburst to the Mariners offense, or lack thereof.

Suzyn Waldman DID NOT have to do the Mariners like that 😠pic.twitter.com/MbtP80YHOF
Sims: "Oh, look at this! My gosh! Deep to right center field! That's outta here! Another 'Hey now' for the Yankees! They're killing Milwaukee. It's 13-3."
Waldman: "You're not gonna know what to do with this. Your old team didn't score 13 runs in a month."
Sims: "Don't rub it in! Be nice!"
Waldman: "Welcome to the New York Yankees, Dave Sims!"
Now, this is obviously not true. We saw one game last year where the Mariners beat the Phillies 10-2, which included a Justin Turner grand slam (that unfortunately hit a fan in the face). The Mariners have had winning seasons in the past four years, making the playoffs in 2022. However, it is true that during last season, their pitching was much better than their hitting.
The Yankees hit nine home runs on Saturday as they blew out the Brewers 20-9, so they certainly kept Sims busy in his new gig. It should also be noted that the Mariners have started the season 1-2 and have only scored 6 runs combined in their first three games, so it would seem they could use some offensive help. Will be interesting to see if Waldman's commnents come back to bite the Yankees, as they could be used as bulletin board material when the Mariners come to the Bronx in May to face them head-to-head.
