In High-A minor league baseball action, Greenville Drive third baseman Andy Lugo celebrated a walk-off single by flipping his bat sky high to punctuate the 12-inning 10-9 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash.
Lugo came up in the bottom of the 12th with the bases loaded and nobody out and the game tied at 9 apiece. The Dash outfield was brought in to play a short fly ball as any deep ball would be enought for the runner on third to score on a sacrifice. On the 1-0 pitch, Lugo hit the ball deep into right-center field, which was enough to score the game-winning run. As cameras were zooming in to follow where the ball would land, Lugo's bat flew up and above the camera view, coming back down after a second or two.
Announcers called the play as a 420-foot single by Lugo. However, some of us are more curious how high the bat went in the air.

The Drive players appeared to wait until the bat came down before running onto the field to celebrate. That was the right thing to do as bat flips can be dangerous, and this one could have really hurt someone.
For the game, Lugo was 3-for-6 with a solo HR and 2 RBI, including the game-winner. Not bad for a day's work.
