Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams tagged New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor in the groin on a stolen base attempt during Saturday's game at Nationals Park.
It happened in the top of the first after Lindor led off the game with a single to reach base. With the count 3-2 on Mets slugger Juan Soto, Lindor was running on the pitch. Nats starter Brad Lord struck out Soto with a fastball, and catcher Keibert Ruiz threw to Abrams on a hop, beating Lindor by a couple of steps.
Abrams first dropped the glove to the ground expecting Lindor to slide into second. However, as Lindor remained standing up, Abrams lifted his glove up to tag him, resulting in the awkward tag in Lindor's groin.

Second base umpire Carlos Torres originally called Lindor safe, but the play was reviewed. The replay showed that the tag to Lindor's groin was made before he touched the bag, leading one television broadcaster to make the hilarious comment: "That's going to be an ouch and an out." The call was reversed and Lindor was ruled out.
We have not seen a player tagged in the groin recently, but we have seen players get hit in the groin by the throw on a stolen base attempt. Either way, it has the potential to be a bit painful. This serves as a reminder to baseball players to always wear a cup for extra protection.
Lindor stayed in the game and finished 3-for-4. In the end, after a brief rain delay which featured a grounds crew mishap, the Mets beat the Nationals 2-0.
